What to check when your Performa washer is leaking water

If your Performa top load washer by Maytag is leaking water

You will need to check the following parts until you find out the part that needs to be replace to fix the washing machine.

Here I am going to give you a brief description of the parts you need to check, and below you will have the links to the pages with the videos that will show you how the repair is done.

Water valve: If the problem with your Performa washer is that is not filling properly with water, or is not filling at all. The problem could be a bad water valve. 

The water mixing valve uses two solenoids to open the cold water side, the hot water side, or both the hot and cold water sides.

If one of the solenoids burn out, that side of the water valve will stop opening to allow water into the washer. To correct that you will need to replace the water valve assembly.

Other problem with the water valve is, that valve stay partially open even when no electricity is supplied to the solenoid causing the washer to fill and overflow. The pump: If the problem with your Performa washer is that is not draining the water from the tub, is leaking water, or is making noises like metal rubbing against metal, the problem could be a bad pump.

The impeller bearings inside of the pump wear out in a few years of use, and the pump start leaking water and making metal to metal grinding noises. To check it out do the following.

Pull the washer out a little, Lean the washer against the wall, make sure is secure and is not going to fall on top of you. Derail the belt from the motor, transmission, and pump pulleys, turn the pump pulley by hand, and put a little pressure to the sides when turning it If it feels like is rubbing metal to metal, or is has movement side to side the pump is bad, and must be replaced.

Tub seal: If the problem with your Performa washer is that is leaking water through the neck of the transmission, the problem could be a bad tub seal.

The tub seal is connected to the tub, and seals the hole that the transmission neck goes through in the tub. Trying to explain with words how to check & replace this seal is a hard thing to do.

How to replace the tub: If the problem with your Performa washer is that it leaks water, the problem could be a hole or a crack in the tub. 

If the tub has a hole or a crack that you could see. Try to get some plastic glue to plug the hole or the crack.
