There is one part responsible for
the the Maytag dryer tumbling and that part is the
belt.
Let say that you set the dryer timer on the regular
cycle, press the start button and the motor starts
running, and you feel the dryer not tumbling.
Follow these procedures to find out if the dryer
tumbles or not. With the timer dial set on the
regular cycle open the dryer door.
Activate the door switch by pressing it and holding
it down. Use your left hand to activate the door
switch, and the right hand to press the push to
start button.
If the motor runs, but the dryer drum won't tumble,
most likely the belt is stretch or broken.
A broken belt could be the reason for your dryer not
tumbling.
To replace a broken belt you will need to remove the
front panel to be able to slide the belt over the
drum.
On the older style dryers there is a square hole on
the back to allow you to place the belt on the motor
and idler pulleys after you have put the belt over
the drum.
On the new style dryer you will have to place the
belt on the motor pulley and on the idler pulley by
feeling your way and not by seeing.
If the not tumbling or tumbles poorly you will need
to check the drum support rollers and the idler
pulley to make sure that they are in good working
order.
Some times the belt gets twisted and rides the wrong
way on the motor pulley, this could be the reason
for your Maytag dryer not tumbling or tumbling
poorly.
If you feel that the your dryer is not tumbling the
way that it should, check & replace the belt.
A new belt is not expensive and it will help your
dryer work better.
We hope that this Maytag dryer not tumbling page,
has been of help to you.
