Regular 3 prongs wall outlet

Let’s say that you need to use your washing machine or your gas dryer. You select the cycle that you’re going to use, turn the machine on and nothing happens. The washing machine or the dryer will not start.

The first place that you must check is the outlet for 120 volts. The easiest way to test the outlet is by connecting a hair dryer or a lamp in the outlet.

If the hair dryer or the lamp work OK, then you know that the problem is not on the wall outlet.

The problem then must be in your washing machine or in your dryer.

Many times I have gone to a house to do a repair and found out that the only problem with the washer or the dryer was that there was no electricity on the outlet.

That is why you will need to make sure that you have 120 volts on the receptacle before you start taking apart your washer or dryer, when they don’t work.

If there is no electricity in the outlet, the problem could be a blown fuse or tripped circuit breaker.

It also could be in the wiring. If that is the case, you will need to call a licensed electrician to take care of the problem.
