If your Maytag gas dryer is not starting in any of the cycles, in other words the dryer is dead.
You will need to check the following parts until you find out the part that needs to be replace to fix the dryer.
Here I am going to give you a brief description of the parts you need to check, and below you will have the links to the pages with the videos that will show you how the repairs are done.
Taking apart: The first thing that you need to learn to be able to fix your Maytag electric, is how to take it apart and put it back together again properly.
When you know how to dismantle the dryer, every repair becomes easier do. The hardest thing to do when making a repair is dismantling and reassembling the dryer.
So my advice to you is, learn how to dismantle and put the dryer back together properly, before trying to do the repairs.
Thermal fuses: These fuses are safety devices use to blow and stop the motor from running if the temperature inside of the dryer surpass the setting on the thermal fuses. These dryers use 2 thermal fuses wired in series. One is on top of the heating element housing and the other is next to the blower wheel housing. Before replacing them, you will need to make sure that the airflow through the dryer is not restricted.
The timer: This is the brain of the dryer and it is in charge of sending electricity to each of the electrical parts in the dryer that need to be working during a drying cycle. The timer has many contacts that close and open during a drying cycle. Watch the timer video to see how to check and replace it.
The start switch: This switch is used to get the motor running after setting the timer in the any of the drying cycles. If this switch is bad, the dryer will not do anything until you replace it with a good working switch.
The door switch: This is a safety device used to stop the motor from running if the door on the dryer is opened when the dryer is running in a drying cycle. If the dryer door is opened during a drying cycle the dryer will stop running and you need to close the door and press the start switch to get the dryer running again.
The motor: The job of the motor is to turn the belt that turs the tumbler and to close the circuit of the heating element to produce the heat to dry the clothes. If the motor doesn’t run, the dryer will not do anything. Watch the video on how to check the motor to see how it is done.
Wire connectors: If everything seems to be ok but the dryer is not working make sure to check every wire connector to make sure that is making a good connection or that is not burned.
