A bad rear drum seal could be the reason why your Whirlpool 29 inch electric dryer is making noises and small items of clothing are disappearing from the tumbler.
This part is located on the rear of the tumbler and it is attached by gluing it to the drum.
The seal is used to prevent the hot air from escaping from the tumbler. It is also used to prevent the drum from rubbing metal against metal.
To check it out, do the following, disconnect the dryer from the wall outlet. Remove the 2 screws under the cover of the lint filter compartment and open the top panel. Look to the rear of the drum, if the seal is broken or unglued. You will need to replace it with a new one.
If the seal is broken cut it off with utility knife and pull it from the drum. Be careful because the are many sharp edges and you could injure yourself, is recommended to use work gloves when doing this.
To replace it you need to disconnect the door switch, open the front panel and remove the drum.
Proceed to clean the old glue with a wire brush from the drum. set the new seal on the drum without gluing it yet.
