Learn How To Fix A Not Heating GE Hotpoint Electric Dryer 

If your GE Hotpoint electric dryer is not heating. You will need to check the following parts until you find out the part that needs to be replace to fix the dryer.

Voltage at terminal block: If the dryer is running ok but is not producing heat, the first thing you need to check is the voltages at the terminal block. With a multimeter and the dryer connected to the wall outlet you need to check the voltage between the terminal with the black wires L1 and the terminal with the red wires L2.

Power cord: Cord burnt or broken wires at the terminal block could prevent the dryer from working properly. There are 2 types of power cords, the 3 prongs on the older dryers and the 4 prongs on the newer dryers. Check the links below to see how to check and replace the power cords.

Timer not heating: Bad timer contacts could be the reason why is the dryer is not producing heat. With time and usage the contacts will burn out and won't be able to close the circuit for the dryer to heat up.

Thermal cutoff thermostat: This thermostat is used as a safety device to open the circuit if the heat element housing gets hotter that 305 degrees Fahrenheit. This will only happens if there is a restriction on the airflow from the inside to the outside.

Operating thermostat: A bad cycling thermostat could be the reason why your GE Hotpoint electric dryer is not drying the clothes properly or not drying at all.

This thermostat is used to control the temperature inside of the tumbler. It is rated at 155 degrees Fahrenheit plus or minus 20 degrees.

This thermostat could be working ok eclectically, but not opening and closing at the proper temperature. If your dryer is not heating at all, you will need a multimeter to check for continuity in the thermostat.

Hi limit thermostat: This thermostat is used to open the heater circuit if the thermal cutoff fails to blow and open the circuit.

The heating element: This is the unit that gets red hot when electricity pass through the coiled wire to produce heat to dry the clothes.

Motor centrifugal switch: The motor could run ok to turn the dryer tumbler around, but if the centrifugal switch doesn't connect the M1 and M2 red wires, the dryer will not heat at all.
