If your Maytag top load washer is not filling properly. Let say that the washer works ok if you put it on the spin cycle, but is not taking in water according to the selection on the water temperature switch.

You will need to check the following parts until you find out the part that needs to be replace to fix the washing machine.

Here I am going to give you a brief description of the parts you need to check, and below you will have the links to the pages with the videos that will show you how the repairs are done when your washer is not filling.

Taking apart: You will need to learn how to remove all the panels to get access to the parts that you need to check when the washer is not taking in water according to the selection you make on the water temperature switch.

The water faucets: The first thing that you need to do before taking anything apart, is to check and make sure that there is water coming from the fill hoses. Turn the water faucets off and disconnect them from the water valve behind the washer. Put the fill hoses inside of the washer tub, and open the water hot and cold water faucets. If the water flows ok, then you could check the water valve filters.

Water valve filters: While you have the fill hose disconnected, you could check the water valve filters. These filters are located inside of the water valve, and could be removed by using s small flat screwdriver. After taking them out clean them if you can or replace them if they are too bad to just clean them. Place them inside of the water valve, install the fill hoses and try the washer to see how it is working now.

The water mixing valve: It is call a mixing valve because there it is where the cold and hot water could be open at the same time becoming warm water. This valve uses 2 solenoids that the water temperature switch sends electricity to them according to the selection on the switch. The links below will show you how to check it and replace it the right way.

Water temperature switch. This switch is used to control which solenoid is opening according to the selection on the switch. You could select cold water, hot water, or warm water. This switch doesn't go bad that often, but in case we have the video on how to check it out.

Water level switch: This switch is use to select how much water you need on the tub to do the laundry. Most of these switches have 3 or more selections. The most common selections are small, medium and large. The job of this switch is to allow water to flow to the tub until air pressure triggers the switch into the agitate mode and the washer starts washing the clothes.

As you could see if any of these parts fails to work properly it could cause the washer from not filling with water according to the selection on the water temperature switch and on the water level switch.
