How to check the motor switch in a
Whirlpool made 29 inch electric or gas dryer

If the problem with the dryer is that is not heating, the problem could be a bad motor centrifugal switch.

To check the motor switch in a Whirlpool 29 inch electric or gas dryer, you will need to do the following.

Disconnect the dryer from the wall outlet. Go behind the dryer and remove the terminal block cover plate and the back panel.

Make a test cord with 2 insulated alligator clips like this. To make it, get an extension cord and attach two insulated alligator clips to the end like this.

Go behind the dryer and find the White and Blue wires coming from the motor. Strip a little bit of insulation on the wires to expose the wire.

Clip the two insulated alligator clips from the test cord, to the White & Blue wires coming from the motor. Use some electrical tape to secure the alligator clips to the wires and to insulate the connections.

Set your multimeter on the lower scale to read ohms. Connect the test cord to the wall outlet to run the motor by itself. Follow the two red wires coming from the motor. One red wire goes to the terminal block and the other red wire goes to the heating element.

Since the dryer is disconnected from the wall outlet, there is no electricity running through these wires.

With the motor running, you will need to take a reading between the red wire on the terminal block and the red wire on the heating element.

The reading should be close to 0 ohms. if the reading is infinity, the motor switch is bad and the motor will need to be replace.

Disconnect the test cord from the wall outlet, so the motor stops running. Take another reading between the two red wires again. The reading should be infinity. If the reading is anything but infinity, the motor switch is bad and the motor will need to be replace.
