The motor could be the cause why your Whirlpool 29 inch electric dryer is not starting or running.
This is the workhorse of the dryer. It is use to rotate the tumbler, to turn the blower wheel to circulate the air inside of the dryer and to close the contacts to complete the circuit to the heating element.
If the motor is having a hard time to start, the first thing I would check is the blower wheel to make sure that there is nothing stuck on the blower preventing it to start. If there is nothing stuck on the blower the motor ism bad.
To check this part do the following. You need to make a homemade test cord with 2 insulated alligator clips. Then you need to remove the back panel to get access to the wires.
Find the blue and white wires coming from the inside of the dryer. Strip a little insulation to expose the bare wires from the white and blue wires. Clip the test cord insulated alligator clips on the bare wires of the white and blue wire.
Connect the test cord to 120 volts wall outlet. If the motor starts running with no problem, that indicates that it is good. If it doesn't run, then is bad and it need to be replaced.
Please view the video below a few times until you know for sure how it is done, then go ahead and do it.
Having a motor replace by a repair company could be very expensive. You will have to pay a service call to check the dryer ( That could be about $90 ) Then you have to pay for the labor ( That could be about $70 and hour ) plus the cost of the part.
So, if you do it yourself all you spending is the price of the new motor and the time to do the repair.
If you are ready to do this, watch my video a few times until you know how it is done.
