Front Drum Bearing

GE Hotpoint Electric Dryer

If the problem with your GE Hotpoint electric or gas dryer is that is making screeching or scraping noises when the dryer is running. The problem could be a worn out front drum bearing.

The front drum bearing consist of a plastic piece shaped like half circle, and four teflon slides or glides on top of it.

The inside front lip of the drum rides on top of the teflon slides or glides. When the teflon slides or glides wear out, the drum starts riding on top of the plastic piece.

As it rides on top of the plastic piece it wears out the plastic and the dryer start making screeching or scraping noises.

If you catch it as soon as the dryer starts making noises, you may only have to replace the teflon slides or glides.

If you let it go too long making noises, it will wear the plastic piece and you will need to replace the complete front drum bearing including the teflon slides or glides.
