The Whirlpool washer motor in a
washing machine is one of the most important parts.
If the motor won’t run, the washer will not work at
all.
This is how the motor works. When
you select a cycle and pull the knob to turn the
washer on, electricity travels through the timer.
If the washer is empty, electricity
will flow to the water temperature switch and then
to the water mixing valve and the washer will fill
to the desire level.
After the washer tank fills up, the
water level switch redirect the electricity to the
motor and the washer will start to wash.
These are
some possible causes why the motor may not start
A bad motor centrifugal switch, a
burnt wire to the switch, a bad start capacitor, a
piece of clothing stuck inside of the pump, etc.
When the motor bearings wear out, the motor
will have a hard time starting and some times it
will not start at all. If the user overload the
washer the motor could overheat and burn the motor
windings
If the motor won’t start, before
getting a new motor check for something stuck inside
of the pump and try a new start capacitor.
Remember this Whirlpool washer motor
will run in two different directions, when it runs
clockwise the washer will spin and when it runs
counterclockwise the washer will agitate. So if the
washer don’t wash or spin, the problem could be a
bad motor.
We hope that this Whirlpool
washer motor has been of help to you.
