"How to check & replace the motor coupler in a Whirlpool direct
drive washing machine"

If the problem is that your Whirlpool made direct drive washer is not agitating or spinning, you will need to check the motor coupler.

To check to see if the motor coupler is working or not, do the following.

  1. Disconnect the washer from the wall outlet

  2. Open the controls panel

  3. Remove the cabinet

  4. Disconnect the motor wire harness

  5. Remove the pump retaining clips

  6. Remove the pump from the motor, but leave the hoses attached

  7. Remove the motor

  8. If the motor coupler is broken or worn out, replace it

  9. Remove the bad motor coupler from the motor and the
    gearcase or transmission

  10. Install the new motor coupler on the motor and gearcase

  11. Install the motor and the pump

  12. Install the cabinet

  13. Close the controls panel
