Whirlpool washer is not spinning
There are many parts that could
stop the Whirlpool washer from spinning and you will need to check everyone of
them until you find which one is causing the problem.
The Wall Outlet
The first thing you need to check is the wall outlet to make sure that there is 120 volts present at the
wall outlet. To do that, set the timer in the regular cycle and pull the knob to
see if the washer starts filling with water.
If the washer start filling ok, then the problem is
in the washer. If the washer won't fill, plug a good hair dryer in the outlet to
see if the outlet has 120 volts.
The Lid Switch
The lid switch also know as the door switch, has to be working in order for the washer to be able to spin. So a bad lid switch could be the reason why the
Whirlpool washer is not spinning.
The motor coupler
The motor coupler is the part that transfers the rotation of the motor to the transmission. When the motor run in a counterclockwise direction the washer will agitate and when it runs clockwise the washer will spin. A broken motor coupler could be the reason why the Whirlpool washer is not spinning or agitating.
The basket drive block
The basket drive block is the part use to couple the spin drum to the brake & drive tube. The basket drive block has two indentations on it that locks two tabs on brake & drive tube.
When the washer gets overloaded too often, the indentations on the basket drive block wear out and the spin drum jus slips. That could be the reason when your
Whirlpool washer is not spinning.
The clutch
The clutch is the part use to make the washer spin. The clutch has two main parts. The cam driver that is located in the brake & drive tube and the clutch assembly that is attached to the transmission. A broken cam driver could be the reason why your washer is not spinning.
The brake and drive tube
The brake and drive tube is the part responsible for stopping the spin drum when the washer is agitating and for spinning the spin drum when the timer calls for spin.
The transmission
The transmission is the part in charge of making the washer agitate or spin according to the rotation of the motor.
The clutch assembly is attached to the transmission and it should be turning any time the motor turns the transmission in the spin rotation.
If the gears inside of the transmission brake, and the clutch assembly won't turn, this will be the cause why your
Whirlpool washer is not spinning.
The motor
The motor is what makes the washer work. A motor that is tired and overheats could be the cause why your Whirlpool washer is not spinning.
The major cause for the motor to overheat is, too much laundry at one time or too many loads with out giving the motor a chance to cool down.
The timer
The timer is the brain of the washer, it is a distribution center that distributes the electricity to the different parts in the washer. The timer has contacts inside that open and close and sometimes these contacts will burn out.
A burnt set of contacts that send electricity to the motor to make it spin could be the reason why your
Whirlpool washer is not spinning.
As you could see there are many parts that could be the reason why your Whirlpool washer is not spinning. You will have to check each one of the parts mention until you find out which one
is causing the washer not to spin.
