Whirlpool washer
is not filling properly
If your washer is not filling
properly or is not filling at all, make sure that the water faucets are opened and
that there is water up to the water mixing valve inlet ports.
Next turn off the water faucets, disconnect the fill hoses from
the water valve and check
the screen filters inside of water valve. Make sure that they are clean, if they are
clogged with sediment or rust, try to clean them with an old tooth brush. If you
can't clean them, replace them with new ones.
You should be able to get new screen filters at your appliance parts store.
Dirty screen filters or closed water faucets could be the reason why your
Whirlpool washer is not filling.
The water level switch
The water level switch is in charge of controlling the amount of
water allow in the washer tub, according to the selection the user chooses,
Large, Medium or small.
If the contacts inside of the switch get welded in the filling position, the
washer will continue to fill and it will overflow. If the contacts get welded on
the full position, the washer will agitate with no water on the tub.
If the contacts are broken inside of the switch and the switch doesn't allow
electricity to flow to the temperature switch, this could be the reason why the
Whirlpool washer is not filling.
The water temperature switch
The water temperature switch is
used to select the temperature of the water filling the washer. This switch
doesn't go bad that often as the water mixing valve, but it could be the reason
why the washer won't fill properly.
The water
mixing valve
The water valve is in charge of allowing the water that you
select on the water temperature switch to enter the washer, hot water, cold
water or warm water.
The water valve uses two electric solenoids to open the water
ports. One for the cold water, one for the hot water and the two together for the
warm water.
The most common cause for the water mixing valve to fail is a
burnt solenoid.
Another problem with the water valve is one of the ports not closing and
allowing water to pass through, causing the washer to overflow.
You will need to use a multimeter to check the solenoids to see
if they have resistance or see if the solenoids are burnt out. If one of the
solenoids is bad, the complete water valve have to be replace. A bad mixing
water valve could be the reason why your Whirlpool washer is not filling.
