The drain hose
Most of the times when a washer is
delivered and installed in a house, it is done by delivery people. They install the hoses, connect the cord to the wall outlet and leave.
If the drain hose is too long, it
could kink and restrict the water from flowing to the drain pipe.
This problem use to happened with the rubber drain hoses.
The modern hoses are made of plastic and you won't see hardly any kinks. Unless
the drain hose is too short and the user splices a piece of rubber hose to make
the drain hose longer.
You should always us what is called a gooseneck attached
to the end of the rubber hose.
A gooseneck is a piece of aluminum
pipe that is bend like a horseshoe, it is use to prevent the hose from kinking
and restricting the water flow to the drain pipe.
Obstructions
Obstructions could be in many places.
Inside of the pump, inside of the tub, covering the drain hole and in any of the
hoses.
There could be many items causing
the obstructions. A sock, handkerchief a curtain tie, a button or even a coin.
So make sure to check the pockets in the clothes you are going to wash.
The pump
Some times when objects wind up inside of the pump, they could
damage the pump impeller. The impeller is made of rubber and if the vanes in the
impeller are broken off, the washer will not drain properly.
Other times, the obstruction could lock the pump impeller
in place, preventing the motor from running at all.
The lid switch
The lid switch is a safety device use to stop the washer motor
from running any time the door is opened. The older washers use to agitate with
the door opened. The newer washers will not agitate or spin with the door
opened.
A bad lid or door switch could be the reason why your Whirlpool
washer is not draining out.
