Brake & Drive Tube:
The Whirlpool washer
brake drive tube is the part responsible for
stopping the spin drum when the washer is agitating
and for spinning the spin drum when the timer calls
for spin.
There are some other parts that can cause the
washer to spin poorly or not to spin at all.
Some of these parts are the brake drive tube, the
motor coupler, the basket drive block, the motor,
the clutch, an item stuck in the pump, etc.The
spin tube (as this part is also known) is a metal
tube with 2 lock keys (or ears) cut on the top of
the tube and a brake assembly on the bottom.
It also has a hard plastic piece that when the
clutch assembly turns counterclockwise and push on
it, compresses the brake spring releasing the brake
and allowing the washer to spin.
Sometimes the Whirlpool washer basket drive block
gets damage and you only have to replace the drive
block, but if the 2 lock keys (or ears) are damage
the complete spin tube assembly has to be replace.
I don't see too many spin tubes been replaced. It
is an expensive job if you have to call a repair
company to come and replace it for you. We hope that
this Whirlpool washer brake drive tube is of help to
you. |
