Basket drive block:
The Whirlpool washer
basket drive block is an aluminum cone shape piece
with a cut along the side. It is installed over the
brake & drive tube, and the spin drum is attached to
it.
In other words, when the motor turns the
transmission counterclockwise, the spin tube turns
and since the drum is attached to the tube, the drum
will spin with it.
The drive block has 2 groves that mates with with
2 lock keys (or ears) on the tube. When the drive
block nut is tighten, it secures the spin drum to
the tube.
Some times, when the nut becomes loose, the tube
spins and it round the holding groves on the block
and the washer will not spin or spins too slow
making noises.
The solution is to remove the drum and check the
basket drive block and tube to make sure that the
lock keys (or ears) are not worn out.
If they are ok, then all you need to do is to
replace the block.
If the lock keys are damage, then you will need
to replace the complete brake & drive tube assembly.
If the lock keys are damage, then you will need
to replace the complete brake & drive tube assembly.
This repair could be costly if you have to call a
repair company, but if you do it yourself, is a
piece of cake. |
