The
Whirlpool washer agitator dogs are use to control
the direction that the clothes mover is going to
turn.
They are located inside of the clothes mover.
The clothes mover is the top part of the dual action
agitator
To determine if you have a bad set of agitator
dogs, do the following. Set the washer on the
regular cycle and let it fill to the selected level.
After the washer is full of water, the motor should
start. The motor turns the transmission and the
washer supposed to start agitating.
If the clothes mover is making noises when it
moves, is moving too slow or not moving at all, you
will need to check the agitator dogs.
To check the agitator dogs you will need to
remove the clothes mover.
To remove the clothes mover you will need to
remove the fabric softener dispenser or the agitator
cover. Then you need to remove the cover that guards
the agitator dogs from soapy water and the bolt
that holds the agitator in place.
Remove the complete agitator ( it will be easier
to replace the agitator dogs ) and remove the
clothes mover. Remove the agitator dogs and the
holder. Inspect the gear cuts inside of the clothes
mover, if they are good, clean it and dry it. If
they are worn out, you will need to replace the
clothes mover and the agitator dogs.
The reason that the Whirlpool washer agitator
dogs wear out before they should is because the
agitator dogs guard comes undone allowing soapy
water to saturate the agitator dogs making them
slippery and causing them to wear out before they
should. |
