Taking the dryer apart

The first thing you will need to learn to be able to easily repair your not starting Whirlpool 27 inch electric dryer is how to take it apart and how to put it back together again properly. Once you learn how to do that, the repairs will be very easy to do.

Voltages at the terminal block

In order for the dryer to be able to start, there have to be the right voltages present at the terminal block. If you don’t have the proper voltages at the terminal block, check the wall outlet.

The door switch

This switch is connected in series with the motor circuit and if the door is open or the switch is bad, the dryer will not do anything in any of the cycles that you try it on.

Belt switch

This switch is connected in series with the motor circuit and if the belt is broken or the switch is bad, the dryer will not do anything in any of the cycles that you try it on.

The thermal fuse

The thermal fuse is a safety device used to open the motor circuit to stop the dryer from running if the temperature inside of the drum surpass 196 degrees Fahrenheit. The manufacturer recommends that the operating or cycling thermostat be replaced if the thermal fuse blows out.

Push to start switch

If the contacts inside of the start switch won’t close to complete the motor circuit, the dryer will not do anything in any of the cycles.

The timer

If the contacts inside of the timer won’t close to complete the motor circuit, the dryer will not do anything in any of the cycles.

The motor

If the motor is not starting and won't run, the dryer is not going to do anything. The motor needs to run to turn the tumbler and to complete the heating circuit.
