If your Maytag washer is not spinning, check the following.
The motor: Set the timer on the spin cycle and turn the washer on. If the motor doesn't run, you will need to check the lid switch, the motor and the timer. If the motor runs but it will not spin, you will need to check the following parts.
The belts : If the motor runs, but the washer won't spin, check the belts. Make sure that the belts are not worn out. Also check the motor carrier plate. The springs and glides on the motor plate have to move freely. Worn out belts and a motor carrier plate that doesn't move freely could be the cause for the washer not spinning. When replacing the belts make sure that they are original belts made for the Maytag washer. Now they are made by Whirlpool who owns the Maytag name
The transmission : The transmission gears could break and stop the transmission from not working properly. One of the major problems with the transmission, is oil leaks. Oil will leak by the O ring rubber washer inside of the transmission and leak all over the pulley and the belts. Oil soak belts won't grab the transmission pulleys causing the Maytag washer not spinning. Before replacing the transmission, check for any piece of clothing lodge between the spin drum and the tub. You could remove the belts and see if you could turn the transmission pulley in both directions, clockwise & counterclockwise. If the transmission pulley doesn’t, then the transmission is bad and must be replaced. |
