Maytag washer motor springs and glides
The Maytag washer uses two belts, one to drive the transmition, and the other one to drive the pump.
The belts are adjusted by the Maytag washer motor springs and glides.
This is how the springs and glides work. The motor is attached to the top motor plate with four screws and nuts.
The top motor plate has four 3/8 inch shafts that are use to mount the four plastic glides.
The bottom plate has 2 tracks one on each side, the plastic glides ride on the bottom plate tracks.
When the Maytag washer motor springs and glides dry out, the springs can't pull the motor top plate out enough to give the belts the proper tension.
When not enough tension is apply to the top plate the belts won't be adjusted properly and that will cause the the washer to work poorly in the wash or spin cycles.
When you replace the belts, you will need to make sure that the springs and glides are pulling the motor out enough to give the belts the proper tension.
One mistake that a lot of people do, is to replace the belts with out cleaning and greasing the motor plates and adjusting the belts properly.
We hope that this page of the Maytag washer motor springs and glides help you understand the importance of keeping them clean and grease up.
