Maytag top load washing machine not starting
This is how to look for the reason why the washer is not starting.
The wall outlet
Start with the wall outlet . To make sure that there is electricity in the wall outlet, disconnect the washer and connect a hair dryer or any other small electrical appliance in the outlet.
If the appliance you use to test the wall outlet works, then the problem must be in the washer.
If the appliance you use to test the wall outlet don't work, look for a blown fuse or a tripped circuit breaker. If the problem seems to be bigger
than that, get a license electrician to take care of the problem.
The lid switch
If the wall outlet is ok, then you will need to check the lid switch. To check the lid switch you must disconnect the washer from the wall outlet and remove the controls back panel.
Remove the lid switch wire harness and take a reading with your ohms meter between the terminals marked machine & line on the switch. With the door open or close the reading should be 0 ohms.
Take a reading between the terminals marked machine & motor in the lid switch with the washer door closed. The reading should be 0 ohms.
If the reading is infinity, the switch is bad. A bad lid switch could be the cause for the
Maytag top load washing machine not starting.
The timer line switch
If the lid switch is ok, then you will need to check the timer line switch. To check the timer line switch do the following. Set the timer on the regular cycle and pull the knob to turn the timer line switch on.
Take a reading with your ohms meter between the terminal marked LS in the lid switch wire harness and the wire marked L1 on the cord connecting block. The reading should be 0 ohms. If the reading is infinity, the timer is bad and that could be the cause for the Maytag top load washing machine not starting.
The cord
The cord is what connects the washer to the wall outlet. A loose connection between the cord plug and the wall outlet, could be could be the cause for the Maytag top load washing machine not starting.
A loose connection some times will cause the cord plug to heat up and burn out. To check the cord for continuity, jump the two terminals on the cod connecting block and take a reading between the two flat terminals on the cord plug. The reading should be 0 ohms.
Any of these parts that are not working right, can cause your Maytag top load washing machine not starting.
