The terminal block is the first part to check if your Maytag dryer is not heating. The heating element requires 240 volts to get red hot. The circuit has three lines L1, N, L2. If the fuse or circuit breaker of L1 or L2 blows, the terminal block won't have the 240 volts needed for the heating element to work, and the dryer could run but it will not heat.

Warning, this is a live test and you will need to know how to check for voltage before attempting to do so.

To get to the heating element you will need disconnect the dryer from the wall outlet and then remove the front panel. The heating element is inside of a sheet metal tubular heater box. It is held in place with ceramic insulators and it has two terminals coming out of the heater box.

You could check the heating element using an ohms meter. The reading should be between 10 & 30 ohms. A broken heating element could the reason of your Maytag electric dryer not heating.

The hi-limit thermostat is located on top of the heater box, and its job is to open the circuit to the heating element if the airflow to the dryer is restricted for any reason.

This thermostat is opening and closing all the time the dryer running. A bad cycling thermostat could be the reason of your Maytag electric dryer not heating.

The timer is the part that direct the electricity to the other parts in the dryer. This part works very hard and the contacts wear out and some times they burn out. If the timer contacts won't close the dryer will not heat.

The motor switch is another safety device that only close the heating circuit when the motor is running. When the motor is not running the circuit of the heating element is open and the dryer will not heat. A bad motor switch could be the cause for your Maytag dryer not heating.
