The GE washer timer is the brain of the washer. It is inside of
the timer, that the electricity gets directed to the many different
circuits in the washer.
The timer has contacts inside that are
open or close depending on the selection the the user choose.
This control uses a timer motor that works like a clock motor. It
moves an internal set of gears and the gears open and close the
timer contacts.
When the complaint is that the timer won't move from where you
set it, most of the timer this problem is cause by a bad timer
motor.
When the washer timer motor fails, the complete timer assembly
must be replace.
To replace the timer you need to disconnect the
washer from the wall outlet, remove the timer knob by removing the
holding clip then open the controls panel and remove the timer.
Set the new GE washer timer in place and secure it in place.
Connect the wire harness and close the controls panel. Install the
knob holding clip to the knob and install the knob to the timer
shaft.
To be able to check the internal parts of the GE washer timer,
you need to use the wiring schematic that comes with the washer.
