GE washer is not spinning
Let me explain to you what you need to check when your washer won't spin. In order for the washer to spin, the following parts have to be working properly.
The lid or door switch
The washing machine lid switch is a safety device. The purpose of the switch is to stop the motor from running when anyone opens the door while the washer is spinning.
This safety device prevents injuries from happening by stopping the motor as soon as you open the washer door. A bad lid switch could be the reason why your GE washer is not spinning.
The drive belt
If after checking the belt, you find out that the GE and Hotpoint front serviceable washing machine belt is worn out, then the solution is to replace the belt.
If the belt has oil on it, your problem is bigger than replacing the belt. When you get oil on the belt, the transmission
pulley and the motor pulley, the problem is that the seals in the transmission are allowing oil to leak out, and that could be the reason why your GE washer is not spinning or agitating.
If that is the case, you will need to replace the transmission and the belt to correct the problem.
A very expensive repair, probably will be better to get a new washer.
The clutch
The clutch is a part that is used on the motor shaft. It has a drum, a set of shoe pads and a centrifugal mechanism. This mechanism allow it to slip a little when the motor just starts, this way the motor starts with out much of a load on it.
What it does:
The GE and Hotpoint front serviceable washing machine clutch drum, has a v groove on it to accommodate the belt. A worn out set of shoe pads could be the reason why your GE washer is not spinning or agitating.
One of the major problems with the clutch is wear and oil
falling on the shoe pads coming from a leaking transmission.
You will need to check each part until you find
out which part is causing the problem.
