What to check when your GE gas dryer is not starting.
The first thing you need to check is the wall outlet to make sure that there are about 120 volts present at the outlet.
The wall outlet:
An easy way to check the wall outlet is by disconnecting the dryer and connecting a hair dryer that you know it is working. If the hair dryer works, then the problem has to be in the dryer.
If the hair dryer don't work, then the problem could be a blown fuse, tripped circuit breaker or a bad wall outlet. If your problem is bigger than these, you will need to get a license electrician to take care of it.
The timer:
Remove the red wire on terminal B on the timer and take a reading between terminal B and terminal C with brown wire on it. Reading should be 0 ohms.
Take a reading between the brown wire on terminal C in the timer and the brown wire on terminal 1 on the start switch. The reading should be 0 ohms.
Hi-limit right:
When the dryer won't start, check for a blown hi-limit right. Make sure that the exhaust hose is not clogged or this hi-limit will blow again in a short time.
Remove the red wire from contact # 2 on the start switch and take a reading between terminal # 2 and # 1 with the brown wire on it.
When you turn the start switch on, the reading should be 0 ohms.
Check between the red wire on terminal 2 on the start switch and yellow/brown wire on the door switch. The reading should be about 2.5 ohms. Burnt motor windings could be why your dryer do not start.
Check between the yellow/brown wire on the door switch and the ground terminal on the cord, with the dryer door closed. The reading should be 0 ohms. |
