This dryer uses an idler spring switch that will stay on the on position as long as the belt is keeping the idler spring in the right position.
If the belt breaks off, the tension on the idler spring is released and the switch is turn off.
When the switch is turn to the off position, the motor only will run only as long as you are turning the switch to the start position.
As soon as you let go of the start switch, the motor will stop running.
The easier way to check to see if the belt is broken or it has derailed, is by opening the door on the dryer and turning the drum clockwise and counterclockwise.
If the drum turns easily without resistance, you will need to open the dryer to check the belt.
Make sure that the dryer is disconnected from the wall outlet before doing any work on it.
Remove the two screws under the door opening and remove the top panel
Remove the two screws that hold the front panel to the dryer and lift the front panel from the two hooks close to the floor.
Remove the drum and look for the belt on the floor of the dryer.
Check the idler pulley wheel to make sure that is in good shape.
Place the new belt around the drum and put the drum in place.
You will need to stick your hands under the drum to set the belt on top of the motor pulley and the idler pulley.
After installing the belt, set the front panel in place and screw the two holding screws. Install the top panel and secure it with the two screws. |
