4 Prongs Power Cord

Whirlpool 29 Inch Electric Dryer

A bad 4 prongs power cord could be the reason why your Whirlpool 29 inch electric dryer is not starting or not heating.

The cord is the part that transfers the electricity from the wall outlet to the terminal block in the dryer. This cable uses 4 wires to provide the dryer with 240 and 120 ac volts.

The biggest reason that this part fails, is loose connections on the terminal block and between the cord plug and the wall outlet.

To check it out do the following. Disconnect the dryer from the wall outlet and check the terminals on the plug. The terminals should be clean. If the terminals are discolored or burned, the problem is a loose connection between the plug and the wall outlet.

Next you will need to remove the terminal block protecting cover. Check the connections at the terminal block, they should be tight. If the terminals on the wires are burnt of discolored, that indicates a loose connection an you may need to replace the cord.

To replace the 4 prongs power cord do the following. Loosen the holding clamp. Then remove the 3 nuts that holds the wires terminals in place. Remove the bad cord and put the new one in place.

Make sure that the white wire connect to the middle terminal, the red wire to the terminal on the right and the black wire to the terminal on the left.  Disconnect the ground wire from the cabinet and insulated with electrical tape. Attach the green wire from the cord to the cabinet. Make sure that the connections are tight.

Install the terminal block cover plate and try the dryer to see if it works properly now. By learning how to do this repair and doing it yourself, you will could easily save over $150
